Counseling and Career Development Services staff provides individual counseling to all enrolled students. Student appointments are scheduled via phone, walk-ins or referrals from faculty, staff or friends.
The initial session is designed to address student concerns and evaluate the optimal service depending on the nature of the concerns.
Mental health services for students in crisis are available the Counseling and Self- Development Services Office located in the Benedict College Student Health Center at 2315 Laurel Street. Please call Counseling Services at 803-705-4741.
Referring someone to Counseling
If you’re concerned about a Benedict student, call us at 803-705-4741. We can help you determine what to do and how to help the student.
Warning Signs
Express concern, listen, avoid criticizing and recommend a student to counseling if you notice a change in behavior that indicates distress or emotional trouble:
- Increased alcohol or drug use
- Withdrawal from family, friends and society
- Decrease in quality of schoolwork
- Infrequent class attendance
- Significant changes in personal hygiene
- Excessive weight gain or weight loss
- Comments that suggest thoughts about hopelessness or self-harm
