Benedict College honors college president with building naming ceremony

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Founded in 1870 by Northern Baptists, Benedict College was originally a teacher’s college.

Today the school has expanded into a private historically Black college focused on the liberal arts.

Benedict now enrolls around 18 hundred students.

Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis is the school’s 14th president and the first woman to hold the position.

She has been on the job for 7 years and today the administration building on campus was named in her honor.

Artis has received numerous awards and recognition for her work at Benedict College.
