Dr. Hong Jiang is a Professor of Computer Science at Benedict College with over fifteen years of teaching and research experience. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering (2007) from the University of South Carolina. To strengthen her expertise in pedagogy and applied AI, she later completed a Master of Education in Instruction and Learning at Columbia International University (2021) and advanced training in Machine Learning through Amazon Web Services / Stanford University Continuing Studies Program (2023). At Benedict College, she has progressed from Assistant Professor to tenured Associate Professor and now Professor, while also serving as principal investigator or co-PI on numerous federally and industry funded projects focused on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computing education. Her professional background also includes faculty residency with Google.
Dr. Hong Jiang’s scholarship spans peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and a published academic book, with a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence, emotional agents, and computing education. She has authored over 25 publications, including work in journals of related areas, and presented at conferences sponsored by AAAI, AAMAS, IEEE, etc. Her 2008 book From Rational to Emotional Agents highlights her expertise in agent-based systems. Her recent research explores AI-powered chatbots for education, service-learning in computing, and interdisciplinary applications of machine learning. In addition to solo work, Dr. Jiang frequently collaborates with students and colleagues, producing research recognized through international conferences, journal publications, and funded projects, reflecting her commitment to advancing both scholarship and student engagement.
