Columbia, S.C., May 7, 2026, Benedict College proudly announces that Daryl A. Graham, Senior Vice President of Engagement and HBCU Initiative at Strada Education Foundation, will serve as the keynote speaker for its 156th Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium.
A nationally respected executive with more than three decades of leadership experience across philanthropy, finance, corporate strategy, and higher education, Graham has dedicated his career to strengthening the connection between education and economic opportunity. In his current role, he leads national efforts to advance equitable outcomes for students, particularly those attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Graham oversees the strategic direction and execution of Strada’s HBCU Initiative, a transformative multi-year investment designed to expand leadership development, enhance coaching, increase access to work-based learning, and improve college affordability. Working closely with HBCU presidents, institutional leaders, and industry partners, he helps design and scale innovative solutions that equip students for success beyond graduation.
“The Strada HBCU Initiative is about more than scholarships,” Graham said. “It’s about focusing on the next generation of leaders and equipping them with the coaching and internship experiences they need to connect their education to meaningful careers.”
Through this work, Graham has built a meaningful partnership with Benedict College, supporting efforts to help students broaden their vision, strengthen their skill sets, and position themselves to uplift their lives and positively impact their communities.
Honorary Degree Recipients
During the ceremony, Benedict College will also confer an honorary degree upon the keynote speaker, Mr. Daryl A. Graham and Dr. Marlene Murphy McClerklin, a distinguished alumna and lifelong educator whose career exemplifies excellence, leadership, and service.
A 1963 Magna Cum Laude graduate in mathematics from Benedict College, Dr. McClerklin went on to earn advanced degrees and pursue postgraduate study at some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions. Her dedication to student success and educational leadership has left a lasting legacy, culminating in her induction into the Richland School District One Hall of Fame in 2025.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. McClerklin has been a steadfast ambassador for Benedict College. As Campaign Chairperson for the Benedict College Alumni Association, she has successfully helped to raise more than $15 million over 15 years. In recognition of her extraordinary contributions, she has received both the Benedict College Distinguished Service Award and the Outstanding Service Award.
