Dr. He passes Professional Engineering Exam

Assistant Professor Dr. Huanqi He has passed the Environmental discipline of the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Exam.

This 9-hour exam is given by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. The exam is designed to ensure technical competence of practicing engineering and requires extensive preparation, including both academic rigor and progressive work experience. This journey begins with passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, which tests core engineering principles and mathematical skills. Then candidates must accumulate several years (four years after bachelor’s degree) of engineering work experience, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility, judgment, and practical application of knowledge.

“Becoming a Professional Engineer is both a professional milestone and a personal affirmation for me”, said He. “When I received my PE results on the last day of 2025, I felt incredibly excited and relieved. It felt like closing the year with purpose and stepping into the New Year with confidence.”

He says her exam preparation was aided by teaching the Solid and Hazardous Waste Control course.  “Many of the topics in class aligned with the exam content, and teaching the principles deepened my own problem-solving. I think it’s a wonderful example that effective learning and hands-on practice go hand in hand,” says He.

School of Science and Engineering Dean Dr. Jessica Furrer said, “This is an important achievement for Dr. He professionally, and also represents a very beneficial addition to our collective faculty portfolio in the Engineering and Computer Science Department.”   He is the only current faculty member in the School of Science and Engineering to hold a PE license, and the first to achieve this distinction while employed at Benedict College.
