Dr. Eric Rogers Presents at International Conference and Publishes a Paper on Grief and Trauma

Columbia, SC, April 1, 2025, Dr. Eric Rogers’ recent research on grief and trauma has allowed him to present at an international conference in Tokyo and be published in an international journal.

Rogers’ paper titled “Grief and Trauma: The Curious Case of Tattoo and Piercings as Coping Mechanisms in the World of Mental Health” has been published in the December 2025 volume of the International Journal of Advances in Science, Engineering and Technology. He also presented the paper during the International Conference on Psychology, Language and Teaching in Tokyo, Japan, December 3-4, 2025.

Rogers, the chair of the Department of Psychology and Educational Services, joined the faculty at Benedict College in May 2024. His research on grief trauma is a continuation of his lifetime work in psychotherapy and grief and trauma counseling.

“The research, work and insight into the world of grief and trauma cannot ever be ignored or undervalued.  It never ends,” Rogers said. “The fact of the matter is that ‘No one escapes life without pain, scars and sorrow.’  We are not alone, there is hope.  By sharing our grief and pain, we live a little longer, a whole lot better and a lot less shamed.”

Dean Akilah Carter-Francique, School of Education, Health and Human Services, says “Dr. Eric Rogers continues to work as a pioneering scholar in the psychology field exploring issues on grief and trauma. His efforts help to amplify the stigma and shame about sharing grief and pain and support normalizing its place in our daily lives. The School of Education, Health and Human Services at Benedict College are excited for Dr. Rogers to share this important and timely work on an international platform.”
