Mission Statement
The mission of the Center for Teaching and Learning is to support teaching and learning at all levels and in all contexts in which instruction occurs at Benedict College. The CTL supports faculty in their roles as teachers, scholars, and members of the college and wider community.
The Center for Teaching and Learning is committed to promoting a spirit of innovation, collaboration, and love of learning and enhancing a sense of collegiality among faculty as they expand their intellectual, teaching, and scholarly horizons. In pursuing these goals, the CTL enhances the intellectual climate and promotes open and ongoing dialogue among all college community members. It advocates for academic initiatives and enterprises related to teaching and learning through various programs, activities, and resources to achieve the college’s mission.
The Center is also committed to fostering effective Support Staff through professional development, training, and technical support.
Vision Statement
The vision of the CTL is to create an environment at Benedict College that facilitates and promotes effective teaching, professional development, and research, service to the college and community, and integration of new instructional technologies.
The interaction between CTL personnel and the faculty is confidential and separate from any formal college assessment process.

Staff
Scott Blanks is the founding Director of the Benedict College Center for Teaching and Learning. He is also a tenured Professor of Theatre and Speech and has served as the Senior Class Advisor for the past 25 years. He is the College’s Quality Matters Coordinator and a QM certified Peer Reviewer. He coordinates faculty development opportunities as well as administers several of the College’s educational technologies, including our Canvas LMS.
Scott earned his Bachelor of Theatre degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. He is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association (AEA).
