Columbia, SC, November 5, 2025, Benedict College Esports Administration professors have been selected as the 2025 Network of Academic and Scholastic Esports Federations (NASEF) Scholastic Fellows. Dr. Kevin Wilson and Myron Jones, from the School of Education, Health and Human Services, are among 29 fellows chosen internationally to meet monthly and receive mentorship, tools, resources and instructional coaching for educators interested in connecting esports and learning.
“I was pleasantly surprised,” says Wilson on receiving notification that he was named a fellow. “NASEF has been doing very good work, not only domestically, but globally. And so, I knew that joining the network would move my work further. I am very excited to be able to be part of such an esteemed group.” Jones says, “So, this is a great opportunity. I was very shocked after my application was approved. NASEF is something that I do have a passion for as far as being able to drive, the different innovations and different ideals and thoughts that, I have, as far as the esports scenery go. And so, yes, I am very, very, excited for this new opportunity.”
Through this fellowship, Wilson plans to develop a micro credential specific to Gaming Compliance in Esports. “Gambling and cheating are commonplace at all levels of Esports, but no specific certification exists to train individuals to address issues such as cheating, match manipulation, and betting fraud in Esports competition. The goal is to create the curriculum and train those individuals specifically here at Benedict College, similar to a coaching certification that you would find at any other institution. That would be unique to Benedict College and HBCUs,” says Wilson.
Department Chair Tami Ashford-Carroll shares how NASEF Fellowships add to the international recognition of the Benedict faculty and expand the brand of the program. “I know this this is another step in the right direction of us growing the ESports Program. They’re both visionaries, and so we just see them adding to their toolkit and just growing our ESport Administration program. We’re just very proud of them,” says Ashford-Carroll. Wilson and Jones hosted a local network (LAN) competition for 9 high school ESports teams on Sept. 27 in the David H. Swinton Center.
